The Ermenrich Test DM20 is a compact digital multimeter for household and professional work. It is a good fit for auto electricians, electronics repair technicians, and home users. The meter combines a voltmeter, ammeter, and ohmmeter with a non-contact NCV voltage detector that alerts you with vibration and an LED. This kind of alert is especially useful in noisy rooms or outdoors.
The DM20 measures DC voltage on ranges from 200mV to 500V and AC voltage on the 200V and 500V ranges. That covers the usual jobs: testing batteries and rechargeable cells, diagnosing control circuits, and checking household mains. DC current is available on the 2000µA and 200mA ranges, which suits sensor and circuit board testing. Resistance ranges from 200Ω to 2000kΩ let you check the continuity of wires, windings, and heating elements and track down open and short circuits. The meter takes 2 readings per second.
The diode test checks a semiconductor junction by its forward voltage drop. There is also a hold function that freezes the current reading on screen, and an audible alert in NCV mode. Polarity is detected automatically and negative values are shown with a minus sign, so you get a correct reading even if the leads are swapped. The meter has a 9V battery test mode. Unlike a simple voltage measurement, it gives a more accurate indication of how much charge the battery has left.
The meter runs on a 12V 23A battery, good for about 80 hours of continuous use. The ABS plastic housing with a thermoplastic elastomer coating is rated for humidity up to 70% and temperatures from 0°C to +50°C. The 2000-count display is easy to read.
